About Black Rodeo USA Association

The Black Rodeo USA Association is committed to celebrating Black and African-American culture, history, and heritage through thrilling rodeo events and meaningful community initiatives. Their mission encompasses education, youth engagement, community development, agriculture, health, and entertainment. A prime example is the Arizona Black Rodeo, one of the largest African-American events in Arizona, drawing thousands of attendees annually for exhilarating rodeo competitions and cultural festivities.

CHALLENGES

Before switching to Yapsody in January 2024, the Black Rodeo USA Association used Eventbrite for their ticketing needs. While evaluating alternatives, they identified Yapsody as a better option for leveraging advanced ticketing features and reducing ticketing fees, thus offering more value to their customers.

However, they encountered a specific challenge: Ticket scalpers were purchasing tickets at standard prices and reselling them at inflated rates on personal websites. This created concerns about customer trust and satisfaction.

SOLUTION

To address the issue of ticket scalping, Yapsody introduced the “Prevent Ticket Scalping with User Blocklist” feature. This innovative tool enabled the association to:

  • Block IP addresses, email addresses, and email domains associated with known scalpers.
  • Monitor sales by analyzing the customer list report for suspicious email patterns.
  • Flag suspicious purchases, such as multiple tickets bought with different email addresses but originating from the same ZIP code.

On event days, flagged customers were required to collect their tickets at the venue’s will-call booth, where their purchase details were verified. Any discrepancies were recorded, and suspected scalpers were blocked from future purchases.
